Search Tips
Fuzzy matching will search for close variants of the information you entered. For example, a search for ‘Cohen’ will also return results for ‘Cohn,’ ‘Acohen,’ and others.
D-M Soundex (Daitch-Mokotoff Soundex) matching uses a phonetic algorithm to match the information you entered by sound. This tool has been refined to provide more accurate matches of Eastern European and Yiddish surnames. For example, a search for ‘Zusman’ will also return results for ‘Ziszmann,’ ‘Suessmann,’ ‘Schatzmann,’ ‘Jachmann,’ and others.
Search partial terms or first initials using an asterisk wild card character (*). For example, a search for ‘R*ski’ will return results for ‘Rumkowski,’ ‘Rotski,’ ‘Ruski’ and others. The wild card ‘*’ will not work at the beginning of a search string, and will not work in conjunction with the D-M Soundex.
