MS, Pan, deceased prisoners lying in open pit. MSs, several thin, starved-looking prisoners talk to US officer and a doctor. VS, sick prisoners on litters are carried from ambulances to the 20th Field Hospital tents in Halberstadt. CUs, medical officer, wearing mask over his mouth, washes the emaciated body of a prisoner. MSs, prisoners' uniforms and personal effects are burned near tent. NOTE: At this Nazi concentration camp near Langenstein in the Harz Mountains, 6,400 political prisoners of French, Polish, and Russian extraction were held and forced to labor in the construction of a vast underground factory project. During the ten months in which the prisoners lived in this camp, 1,700 persons died of disease and starvation. After its occupation by Task Force CCB of the 8th Armored Division on April 13, 1945, the prisoners continued to die at the rate of 25 per day.
